I would suggest that you go work for him cash under the table and keep your truck out of the equation. However if you must use your truck, plowing $90-100 hr sounds about right. Hauling, $65-75 hr.
If this seems high remember you will need to replace your truck in 1-2 yrs or spend all your free time fixing it and what value do place on your time?

I know that is not the question you asked but...been there, done that and lost a good friend from a similar deal years back.

I mean I want to make money and I know he needs the help but my time is price less. No matter how much money is throw at me my time is price less. You can't put a price on your time.

100 bucks an hour seems steep until you break down where the money goes to wear and tear and upkeep. then it doesnt seem like all that much. Plus if you have a major problem with your truck while using it then your screwed

Going by the US army rate for when I move my own household goods:

58 cents per mile for mileage only
98% of the cost to have someone move my goods (per lb).

The bad thing about charging per lb, is that you need to get your truck weighed empty (tare) and full.

I would just charge between 58-74 cents per mile for the haul.

Plowing, I am not sure of. THat is a lot of wear and tear, plus you are working odd hours since it is an "on call" job.

yes you can, its called minimum wage. And there is always someone who can say they will do it cheaper.

YOu just have to convince the guy you can do it BETTER.

people have already told you this....but let me tell you, as someone who runs and maintains 300,00+ dollar pieces of equipment...equipment upkeep is what can kill you....fast......good example...our JD 9550 combine cracked a piston (7,000 rebuild), spun a main countershaft (4,000 repair), destroyed an auger, had various pulleys replaced and had the feederhouse tilt crack....needless to say, we finally sold it (and purchased a 9670 STS...sweeet machine)

our 85C CAT tractor is on its 3rd set of injectors (can't remember the costs) in about 4200 engine hours....


needless to say....repairs and upkeep costs are big...very big usually and can't be avoided...

other than that...have a good time using your pickup for work...i enjoy using my second gen for farm use...and the occasional WOT run down a muddy irrigation lane....hehe
