What would you charge to use your truck per hour for a company

Exclamation What would you charge to use your truck per hour for a company

Now /summer/ fall/ winter I'm going to be doing some heavy duty landscaping. I will be towing a trailer 16ft long loaded with leaves. Than snow plowing and right now its just bed weight.

The trailer is a good side trailer. It held 7 cubic yard of mulch the other day. He is going to buy a break controler for my truck and install it.

Other than that I'm not sure what he has planned for me/the truck.

He said the trailer is regised under his business.

I need to come up with some sort of a figure to charge him buy.

you will need to come up with something creative, cause if you were just hauling i would say charge by the mile, average now if 52¢ a mile if your covering your own gas, and about 19¢ a mile if you use company gas, but when plowing thats a lot of wear and tear with not so many miles,

For plowing I would charge 90 an hour.
30 an hour if she is hot.

just a couple of things to know.

your auto insurance probably has some fine print somewhere in the policy that says its for non-commercial purposes. so if you had a problem and they ever found out that you were hauling for hire, they could deny the claim. just be aware.

if you're paying for gas, tires, insurance, wear/tear, etc - then the cost per mile or cost per hour should be pretty high, otherwise you're going in the hole, deep and fast.

the current standard rate of reimbursement is 50 cent per mile for personal cars, where you're paying the gas.

for steady/repetitive hauling and towing - i would charge $1.00 per mile for every mile to/from, round trip etc. or i'd charge $50/hr for anytime the truck was running. that could accumulate to an extra $500 for a good 10 hour day, and before you think that's a lot - remember that would have to pay for about $100 in gas, plus your other maintenance, plus you want to make some money off the truck, not just break even.

having said all that - i worked a lot of summer jobs a long time ago where we'd haul off a load of limbs, or go get some pinestraw, or occasionally move a trailer, and i never got paid any extra for that. it was just occasional stuff, where the usual truck was off doing something else, and i didn't like sitting on my *** waiting for it to get back.

another story - my daughter once had a part time nanny job lined up for a neighbor lady. my daughter was to meet a couple of children at their house after school, take them to soccer, karate, baseball, etc, etc, and then bring them home and stay awhile. it was driving around almost every day in her (MY car, my insurance). I said no, we can't do that. the owner of the car is liable for anything terrible that might happen, and its technically a commercial use, enough so that its not worth the risk to me for the few bucks you're going to make. - but you can drive them around in THEIR car all day long. the neighbor got all puffed up over it but i didn't care, she was an idiot.

We pay .58$ a milewhen we have employees using their personal vehicle for company use. That does'nt count actually pulling anything though, I'ld add .25$ for pulling/heavy hauling. Remember that your only going to get paid for the miles driven and not for the time the is loaded but not moving.

Might be a little high but not much, plowing is very tough on a vehicle. You'll be expected to maintan the vehicle, which may require you have repairs done at a higher cost then you would normally pay to meet the letter of your contract. Insurance is needed, specialy for the plowing. My .02 cents

I would have to agree with the above post..

As of right now - lets say you are making 15 an hour - but you are covering all the expense of the truck - so you are making a lot less..

Your truck is making the company how much?

a professional truck driver friend makes .58 cents per mile driven and $9 per hour for any off duty time using a company truck.. And they cover all the truck expenses... those are what will kill you...

I would look into what it would cost the lease a truck and see what they expect you to be responsible for as well..

before you figure this out, remeber thier are a lot of weekend truck owners who will under cut you, a owner subcontracting to you is only interested in finding the best bang for the buck and will work you hard to get back his payment.

check out a rental car company for rental rates and insurance on a heavy duty truck.

fora personal use truck uused to eran income, personnal miles must be deducted from total miles driven to earn income, to write off expenses, you have to keep a log and paper work. ( revenue canada, don't know abought the IRS, ask them )

you will need commerical insurance and a sate inspection to insure truck is road worthy, look into start up cost's, tax's and setting up your self as a small busisnes

Just make sure you have full coverage and commerical insurance cause you're going to need it for the transmissions you're going to be going through.

I use to use my last 2nd gen to pull my 255 ditch witch around every day 6 days aweek and i went through 2 trans in 3 years.

As far as charging them per hour just be happy you found a job and dont push your luck with asking them to pay you to drive your own truck, maybe suggest an extra tank a gas every week or so to help out but that's as far as i'd push it.

Let me add something here to try to shed some light:

He has commerical insurance on every thing up to a million in coverage.

He has run threw guys at school. He takes them out half of them don't know how to start a weed wacker. Last guy did a burn out on someone's lawn. His step dad won't let him tow with his truck. (last kid he took out with) My dad said it was ok.

I told him my rate last year and he didn't want to take me out but he did cause no one else could work with him that day. He liked my work and has invited me back several times now. His plans are getting much bigger. He is ditching his 05 chevy 2500 and stepping up to an 08 f250 and a new dump trailer another mower a muel to plow with in the winter (and the 08 f2500).

He made 76k plowing one account during the winter. He is very promt on paying me. He gives me what I want and is just fine doing that cause I do good work for him.

We went to school together for years.

This is my second job cash only. Its not my main source of income.

This is not my bussines I'm just helping him with his.
