Welcome to DF.

This is a very common subject and has been discussed numerous times before. Not trying to be a jerk or anything, but next time please do a search of the forum (click the "search" link in the black bar above the "new reply" button) before posting a new thread, just to make sure your question hasn't already been answered.

Since you are fairly new to the forum, I already did a search for you, and here are the most relevant results.

If you want to go synthetic, I have tried almost all of them (Due to what autozone had on sale the week i was doing an oil change).

Best:
Quaker state 4x4 Torque power 10W30

Also, i use 1 quart of lucas oil additive in place of the 5th quart of oil.

My truck has liked the quaker state the best. It still had great viscosity and color after 3K miles. Mobil 1 couldn't hang in summer driving, but it is still a good all around oil.

I have tried:
Valvoline synthetic
Castrol Syntec
Mobil 1 (regular and truck SUV formula)
Pennzoil synthetic
castrol syntec belnd
castrol GTX

Have yet to try royal purple. But I like the quaker state 4x4 synthetic so much, that i will load up on it whenever autozone has a sale on quaker state synthetic.

I know that my 1996 5.2 called for 5W30, but my 2001 calls for 10W30.
