Im pretty sure that you need the computer I have seen on several swaps the other way that you need it. Also check about your transmission, I know on the older magnums I think L.A. style, the trannys were different from the 5.2 and 5.9.

The toque converters on a 5.9 were weighted and on the 5.2 they were not. That definitely would ave to be changed. Also you 99 Ram is an OBD II engine, were as your 96 is an OBD I. Save yourself the headache and don't do it. To much work.

pretty sure the tranny's are thesame for the engines. 1996 they started with a different tranny (RE) and 1994/95 they had the RH. I think.

It should work, but just keep your old PCM and hook it up...see if it works. Also, take the fuses out of the old truck and put them in the new one. I know the fuses are different.

it would not be hard to find a 5.9. It does not matter what year it is. The only thing that would change are maybe the AGR and other smog equip on the intake. You basically need to take everything off the old intake and put it on the new one.

You can get a 5.9 engine installed for about 750 bucks from a junkyard.

It is easier than you think.

keep your intake and sensors and it should be a pretty easy swap...computer should be changed to a 99 5.2, but i dont think it will hurt to run your current one
