Default Finally dropped my gas tank and changed the fuel pump with pics! DIY coming tomorrow.

Yea so basicly i was an hour away from home do day and couldnt get the truck to start, AT ALL!!

pump finally went out which was fine because i needed to do it anyways, so basicly i just kept turning the key on an off untill the pump finally decided to come on and prime, truck fired up ran like **** for a minute then leveled out.

I hauled *** home and backed it into the garage and there she sits. Im putting the tank back in tomorrow because it was a horror trying to get the tank out, the straps were fine and the bolts actually came loose with minimal force which suprised the hell out of me because of the little amount of rust on the threads, a nice shot of PB blaster and she came right off.

I got the pump from a guy i met on craigs list along time ago, he was parting out a 01 sport that he had rear ended a dump truck and i called him up asked him if he still had the wreck and if it had the fuel pump and he said come pick it up, 50 bucks cash which i couldnt beat it was cheaper than the junkyard.

Best part is that it was replaced about 5k miles before he wrecked it so i got a new pump at the cost that wholesale couldnt even touch.

Now all i need to do is run up to the AZ and pick up some new hose clamps, i ended up having to cut the fuel neck hoses to get the tank out. The clamps were so rusted i had nothing to bite onto to take them off so i had no choice, so i got new hoses " big one is a radiator hose i bought for my wifes truck but never used" and the other small one was a cut piece i got for free from a buddy and now, onto the pics!

Heres the bolts, fairly clean

Kinda nice having a lift, the truck was already high enough i could crawl under it and sit beside the driveshaft and actually have room to disconnect the wiring and lines ontop of the tank.

Believe it or not this was the biggest pain in the *** of all, getting these screws out.

And there she blows, i always knew this pump was junk, it said i was on empty and the truck was sputtering like i was running out of gas when i pulled in and i got aleast 1/4 of a tank left.

Heres the new pump.

New pump going in

And heres my filler neck, jesus it was rotted. I put the wire grinder on it and took it down, she still has a little life left in it and it's better than paying 155 they want for a new one.

New hoses new fuel pump and all i need now is the freaking hose clamps.

Ever wonder what that tumping sound is when you hit a bump or shut your door? it's this pos bash plate for the tank it just flaps back an forth banging against the gas tank.

Also i have no idea which direction this side plate goes back in i forgot to take a picture.

If you got any idea or dont mind climbing under your truck to take a snap shot for me i'd be greatful!

I actually went out to take a pic, but they came out bad because i could not get far enough away to get the whole shot of the skidplate.

Here is how it goes:
Wide end toward the rear, skinny end toward the front.

you have it the right direction, just flip it over.

No prob. i was on my back and i noticed that I was about 8 inches from the plate...so i was not gonna get the whole thing.

Your pic with the camels in it actually made me want to go outside and have a cig. I don't really smoke, but i keep an old pack of camels in my toolbox. So I needed to go to the garage anyway.

Alright i got the pump in tank back up and bolted down, "PAIN IN THE *** ALONE!" but my fuel guage still doesnt work any different than it did before.

Still reads empty while driving but when idling for a few minutes it will read the correct fuel level, my question is there any known electrical issue with our fuel guages?
