Replace transmission input seal, output seal, and transfer case input seal. A new torque converter is a good idea and is relatively cheap.

You need to flush the cooler lines on your truck. You can get an aerosol flush from the parts store that will clean them well enough to not contaminate your new transmission.

If there is a check ball installed on the return cooler line, remove it.

You will also want to install a new filter in the transmission and adjust the bands.

go to the FAQ section and download the service manual. It will answer most of your problems. You should read it thoroughly and understand exactly what you need to do, and DO IT ALL! don't skip any step. It will cost you much much more to fix it again after it becomes a problem.

Aslo make sure no wires get caught between bellhouseing and tranny.
Crank sensor is back there and many people, includeing myself when I did my transmission,
get the wires for that crank sensor pinched in there.
Just take your time and make sure all wires running along the transmission get fasten back into place.
Also if you have the funds install an aux. trans cooler too, the bigger the better.

its heavy as hell. have you got a trans jack?
+1 on install new torque converter and fill it with fluid when installing.
+1 on remove check valve at frame rail next to radiator. just cut it out and use generic transmission hose. flush cooler and all lines.
remove crank sensor before you even start, and tie the wire up out of the way. everybody pinches that wire.

Just out of curiosity, are you suppose to use anti seize on the trans to engine bolts or blue loc tite? I've seen people use both...not at the same time of course.

The 2001 service manual will have the wrong procedure for adjusting the bands on a 95. Haynes has the right one.
A frame spreader (high lift jack) will make the cross member easier to take out and put back in, otherwise there will be a lot of hammering in your future.

I would also change the rear freeze plugs while the trany is out if you don't and get a leak the trany will have to be removed
