Default LSD/Locker and gear opinions....

Hello all. I started getting info together on putting a locker in my 9.25 rear axle and a LSD in my 44 front axle, when I realized that I only have 3.55 gears now. I am thinking if I am going to do this I may want to change gearing also. I would love to hear what others are running and how it is working for them, also opinions on what I should do. I have a 5.9 engine and currently have 285/75r16's on the truck but may eventually move to 17" rims or a 33" tire. I drive used mostly on road, commute about 16 miles but am really looking to improve my offroad traction. Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated, I want to do this right when I do it.

Yukon 4.11 gears.
Detroit locker for the rear.

That is what I'm going to do because it is the closest gears you can get to stock as far as the power with 245 75 16 and 3.55 gears compared to 33" tires with the 4.11s

The rear axle doesn't have as big of a difference in tire rotation in turns as the front does and I've heard of people with detroits in the rear that love them.

For about 600-800$ more you can get a selectable locker for the front and 200$ more you can get a posi lock to eliminate the problematic vacuum design for the 4x4.

Thank you for your opinions. Maybe I will do the locker in the rear and gears in the front now and hold off on the front LSD for a bit. I do pretty much all my own work, but this is one area that I have never played with so I have to do a little more research, setting backlash and stuff are things that are not completely familiar to me.

Well after talking to a couple mechanic friend I am leaning towards going with 4:10 gears, an air locker in the rear and holding off on the front LSD. So if anyone has any opinions or any parts that I may need let me know.

It is roughly a 32 1/2" I believe. I am a little worried about losing the top end on the highway if I go to big, since the truck is used mostly on the pavement.

Ok so now that I had sorted that out, there is a new issue. From what I am finding so far they do not make a air locker for the 9.25 in the rear only for in the front. What is up with that? back to the drawing board I guess.

just run an aussie. you'll get used to it. save you a bunch of coin and in a truck the long wheelbase makes it much more tolerable
32.5" or what not consitutes a 33 for me nothing measures true anyways but i dont' wanna say i'm runnin a 32.5" lol

I got you on the sizes. lol Never heard of the Aussie, I will have o look into it. Is it more of a LSD or locker or what. I am a little hesitant about a LSD because I have heard many stories about still having the wheel in the air or without traction spinning unless you play with the brakes. I really don't want to deal with that. IDK this project just keeps getting more mind numbing the more information I get. LOL. Thanks for the input though.
