4.10 gears would be better (more torque/decent mileage).

A good comparison for stock power vs gear ratio is
3.55 gears - 245 75 16
3.92 gears - 265 75 16
4.10 gears - 285 75 16

I think 450 is a hell of a deal to upgrade to 3.92's yea they may not be 4.10's but it will be better than what you had just unbolt the old and bolt in the new.

Come on your worried about the speed gauge you can fix that, and you will get used to it being off and learn it if you dont fix it.

So a Ram 2500 front and rear housing will fit a 1500 as long as I get both front and rear drive shafts? If I read that right that sounds like something I should look into, considering what i stated before that I DO pull a car trailor loaded down and don't get me wrong I do like to play around. If I were to find a 2500 with all the "goodies" that i need to do the swap is there anything else that i would need to beaware of? I just don't wanna open up a big *** can of worms and end up sinking more money then needed. Money isn't exactly laying around for me right now. Thanks for the heads up on the Ram 2500 info Dhvaughn.

here you go. spcd1500 just did this and wrote up a nice report. he's pretty active on here, so you can contact him for more details.

if you're going to all the trouble of swapping the axles housings, putting in the dana 60's makes a lot of sense. it'll cost you a lot more than $450, but on the other hand, you have better odds of finding 4.10 gears.

I do have 196,000 miles on this truck also so from where I sit i could get a rear housing with 3:55 gears for $350.00 and have to travel 5 hours away to pick it up, or drive 15 miles away in pick up the front and rear housings with the 3:92 gears with 125,000 miles on them, I am sorry Sheriff420 I did not see your post and the tire size to gear ratio, I do have 265 75 16 on this truck and from what you posted my speedo shouldn't be off at all if I put the 3:92 gears in... right? And it kinda just dawned on me that 2500 front and rear diffs have to have 6 lug rims... correct? Bad deal considering I just bought rims for it 3 weeks ago and not really wanting to do that again. If 450.00 is not a bad price for the 3:92 gears front and rear housings which I personally didn't think it was at all considering what the other guy wanted for just the rear with 3:55's. I'll be pickin up the 3:92's tommorow. Thanks for all the help.

$450 for both is a good price. i searched like crazy to find a 4runner rear end last year. the standard junkyard price was $350-400 per axle. i finally found a private seller for $2xx something.
