I for one have had great luck with Dodges. So has my dad. And I don't say that as in "We have to fix the same problems on every truck we get, and it costs a lot, and is a PITA, but I still like it". I mean that in a "it does what it is built to do, every time you get in it." sort of way..

I don't fix things on my truck very often except for common maintenance-type things (oil, tires, brakes, etc.).
Every vehicle does have their own issues. I think we all agree on that. It just seems like Dodges have more expensive ones. If you come on this forum you will see that transmission problems, lsd in the rear ends, pleneum gaskets, are all common problems. That all are expensive to fix. When you go on a Honda forum in general you just don't see a ton of posts from different people all having the same major issue. The exception to this is the 98-02 Accords and the transmission. They are known to be bad and lots have them go bad. Other than that the posts seem to be about how someones rotors went bad, their stereo quit lighting up, etc. Other minor stuff like that. This has also been my experience with the two Honda's I've had. One has 272k miles on it with the original transmission and motor. It has a small coolant leak and an oil leak but it runs excellent. For that many miles you can't complain about small stuff like that. It's not a bad design that caused it either it's because it's 14 years old and has a ton of miles.

Now Toyota has some issues too but just reliability wise they don't seem to have that many motor or transmission problems. It seems to be minor stuff you read about being common problems on them.

I know that lots of people on a Dodge forum are going to love their Dodges. Just like if you go to a Ford or Chevy forum. However, after having a couple of each I can honestly say that the Honda's I've had have been way more reliable than the Chevy or Dodge I've had. Not to mention the Honda's got driven a lot harder and beat on a lot more. Not that they got beat on, but they have been driver harder than the Dodge or Chevy I have. I've had several friends and family members that have tried both and they have all had the same experience. The Japanese cars just seem more reliable. The newer ones don't seem to be as good as the older ones but they still seem better than Chevy's, Fords, or Dodges. Now I have other friends that will only buy from one of the American companies and won't get one of the other brands a chance at all. These are the same one that have the same problems with their American vehicles that the rest of us have had with them. Yet they want to tell you how great they are and how other brands a pieces of crap.

How there are guys like you that have had good luck too. There just seem to be more that have all these issues with the American vehicles.

I'm very sorry to hear about your truck. You have the best looking 2nd gen i feel on this forum. Very clean and tough looking truck. I would continue to call APS until they get tired of hearing your voice. Tell them how much it cost and how many miles you've put on since it starting acting up. Maybe they will offer a "grace" period since you are just outside the warranty. Who knows. But it costs $0 to call them and bug them to no end. It costs $1000's to fix or rebuild.

Hopefully they will help you out on the price of a new one or cover it. Good luck

Well, quite frankly, nobody's stopping you. Work out your problems with your truck, do what you want to do with it, and go buy yourself a Honda if thats what makes you happy. Maybe you'll have better luck with it.

I already have 2 Honda's and have great luck with them. I just want something that's a 4wd that I can tow dirt bikes with. It doesn't need to be a truck so an SUV would work although I'd prefer a truck. I just can't decide what I want. I've looked at the Toyota Tundra and Tacoma and I'm just not crazy about them, but I do think they would do what I need them to do which isn't much. I wish Honda made a better truck than the Ridgeline.

I talked to Wayne again today and he is saying now that he thinks it might be a clutch in the torque converter sticking. He told me that he would like to see me pull the transmission and send the torque converter into him. He said that he wasn't saying that he was going to fix it for free but that he would try to work with me on it.

Do you guys think it could be the torque converter? I can see it having to do with it cutting off, but I wasn't sure if it would have to do with it shifting funny. Then the fact that the fluid looked black and had that sludge in it. The fluid had only been in there 20k miles or so. Maybe 25k but that was the most. I was going to change it at 30k.

So I guess I will try to pull the transmission in the next couple of weeks and get that into him and see if that has anything to do with it.

Its possible, but if the fluid is black id say it has more problems than just the converter.

Wow it sucks to hear about ur trans, expecially for that kinda money, Im no trans expert, but arent these electronicaly controlled? If so do u think maybe something in the controller might be messed up. I've also heard something about multiple speed sensors and how they like to fail, again maybe something to look at, I dont think i would pull the trans out just yet, expecially just to send in a TC, u have something else going on for sure, even i can tell that just from what ur saying its doing, seems like a combination of things really, What area r u in, I sell reman tranny's for these, the 46re, for 1700+tax and core, My neighbor just put one in his truck, it comes with a 3 year, 100k mile parts and labor waranty, It would sure beat 5000 and u wouldnt have to worrie about it for three years anyway, then sell or keep, If ur selling how much, im in the market for another one, everyone around me wants these trucks. sry about the sales pitch type post, just trying to give u an option
