Default checking ball joints

steering has a lot of wonder and play in it. I am a shade tree mechanic so I need help.
How much will tire move back and forth after I lift one side up?
I am barley getting any movement when I tried this?
Truck has 220,000 miles and bought it last week so not sure when might have been replaced before. I am not hearing any squeaking when bouncing front end.

Back and forth, laterally, or you're pushing the top in, pulling the bottom out, and vice versa? Really, you should see no play either way. If you are getting play, try to trace it back. What parts move, and what do they connect to that doesn't? That's where you'll find the problem.
