to start off i have a 01 1500 4x4 5.9l 46re and my problem is that when im drive her down tha road just b4 the trans shifts into o.d. it starts to rattle a bit till i let off the gas and get back on it then it shifts what seems to me is two more gears i dont know if its my tourqconverter or my trannys goin.she has just rolled over 200k the fluid is full and is still red and i have changed the filter about 15k ago.any help would be appreciated thx in advance guys and if theres any gals too

 

Sounds like a lock up issue.

 

Sounds like the solenoid between third and over drive. It was a week point in the 46re. You can replace them they are fairly easy for a moderate shadetree mechanic. You need to remove the pan and filter then the valve body. There are two solenoids there is one between 2nd and 3rd as well. I changed both of mine took a morning and about $300 in parts from Autozone.
