Default Rear lift blocks for 1500

I'm not sure if this would work, but I would like to lift the rear 2" more than stock. I know that the stock 1500 has 3" blocks from the factory and I know that the 3500 has 5" blocks from the factory.

I understand that I can't just jump to Autozone and pick up a 2" block kit because it would be shorter than what is on there and I know better than to stack them.

My question is, could I run to the dealer/Salvage yard and get some 5" blocks from a 3500 along with the U bolts and slap them under the leaf springs to achieve the additional 2" that I am looking for?

you'll get several different opinions on this, including using add a leaf springs, using one big block, and stacking blocks.

blocks are low tech and simple. i've seen them stacked with no harm, including reusing u-bolts. nothing wrong with single 5" blocks either.

+ 1. There are alot a opinions out there.. Myself i have a stock 3in block and fabtech 2in block, welded together, under my truck and an add a leaf. So really its up to you. Just getting the 5in block and new u bolts sounds like a good idea to me.

I had stacked blocks on my 1996, and the u bolts would come loose and my rearend would wobble!!! Needed to get them retorqued every 6 months.

It wobbled so much that my truck was shaking under accelerationa nd my friend following behind me could see it.

But it can be done. Took a year to first notice.

Cant say i have ever heard of that.. I have washers lock washers and nuts on mine and they have been good for over a year now of constant abuse.. That would really stick if you had to keep tightening those.

they were locknuts. WHat happened was the blocks shifted and that messed up how tight the u bolt was. Changed the torque geometry. If you look at the blocks, they are not perfect rectangles.

I wonder if you can weld both the blocks together? I was thinking of getting that done.

That is a thought about welding them together, but I don't have access to a welder and I am sure they are going to want to charge quite a bit of cash to do that around here.

So would the 3500 blocks and U bolts work?

Yes. If anything the 5in block might be a little bit wider than your 1500 block. but other than that it should work fine.
