Front End D.I.Y.
alright, well today im going to crack down and get my truck fixed...
i have to pull everything apart again, carrier and all....so ill be taking plenty of photos, and will be comming with a DIY on wheel bearings, axle seals, and carrier removal.
sorry to give hopes up for now....i know the title says DIY, but im letting everyone know im doing one.
time to get to work.

I was thinking about doing one when I find the time to do my drivers side wheel bearing. Hopefully you get your seal in this time, after seeing the trouble you have had so far I'm wondering how well mine will go.
well im taking a break now....i have everything apart....taking the carrier out did a number on me lol, fell on my hand......but the pics are on my phone right now, then im going to use the digital camera and take the pics off the phone....our digital camera needs a memory card...so some of the pics will look kind of bad...but im using some pics from the first time i did it....
i think its a blessing that i had to take the carrier out because from off-roading that one time with the seal seated crooked, it let rocks, mud and water into the diff. housing, so i have to clean that then its reassembly time.
and i know ill be able to get the pass. seal in this time because i can use the 1 11/16 socket and drive the slide hammer in through the diff housing instead of the outter axle tube and trying to pull in....this way ill be able to push in...
back to work after my......break lol......

I'm curious on how you get the front carrier out. I know how to tear everything else apart but that's the part I'm still not positive of. Last time I tried doing my axle seal it was like 20 degrease out and I got down to the carrier and spent like maybe 10mins trying to get it out before I was froze and gave up. Now since the weather is nice I want to take a few hours sometime this week and just get it done. I'm also not 100% positive on how to get it back in either. I got a 1 3/4 socket to knock the seal in but thinks are never as easy as they sound.
the carrier was pretty easy to pop out, ive done it twice now by myself, with pry bars one thats 2ft long, and one thats a foot and a half, and i pry with both on the carrier side (side where the carrier has the bolts) and that side pops out..(have to use some muscle), and then i slowly work it back and forth prying each side and it comes out....to get it in, line it up the best you can, then use a rubber mallet and hit the bearing races....then get the u-parts (part that completes the bearing race with 4 bolts) and tighten them and it brings the carrier into place.
BUT....after another 3 hours, still no go on setting in the pass. axle seal.....ive tried banging my all thread (with socket pressed against seal) still wont go in, tried from the outter pass axle shaft, and tried tightening together...still wont go in, used a punch, and tried to punch it in...still no go...soaked the race and the seal itself with gear oil, and made sure theres no grime, still no go.......had a friend hold in straight on, and i banged it...still no go....then i held it in place, and he hit it, and still no go...
ive tried everything to get the pass. axle seal in, and the same thing happens each time, part of it pops out and goes crooked...no matter what i do the seal goes crooked every time...
its dark out now, and the truck is sitting on jack stands for the night....i have court in the a.m....so i cant do it right off tomorrow morning....and i have to get another axle seal....thats 9....so ive spent about $110-$120 on pass. axle seals.....this sucks....im so stressed out over this its almost brought me to tears....i now have 13 hours invested to trying to get the pass. axle seal in.....

just take a break tonight, and you'll be good tomorrow. court will be so boring
that you'll be more than motivated to finish that seal tomorrow.
but in all seriousness, just take a step back and look at the big picture when you get back to work. people on this forum will help you figure this out. you'll be good as gold.
