Question Electrical Gremlin

My 2000 Ram is driving me nuts. The problems started with the dome light staying on all the time. My son had it at college so I was unaware about it for quite some time. Once the truck was home, it suddently failed to start. I started replacing items on by one starting with the battery then the starter & guage cluster. With no luck, I started looking for a short. I found the dome light problem with the front overhead courtesy light on the passenger side. the switch had broken causing a dead short. With the dome light working properly, I checked all fuses and breakers. when turning the ignition to start, the starter would click a few time and then the system goes dead. The only sound is coming from the CTM. It sounds like a relay clicking. I removed the CTM and found nothing that appears wrong. By the way, I am an old Mopar man and have always worked on my vehicles. Troubleshooting on my 73 & 74 Chargers was fairly easy compared to these computerized systems.. Anyway, the schematics in the Haynes manual for my Ram does not show the CTM so I'm at a loss on where to look next. Has anyone had a simular issue or at least be able to give me a heads up on where to look next??

Welcome to DF.

Here is the factory service manual for 2001 Dodge Rams. It should be similar enough to the 2000 model year.

The first few pages of section 8E deal with the CTM, if you still want to look at that. If you want the wiring diagram for it, thats in section 8W-45.

Forgive me for getting the dumb questions out of the way... you did check all the fuses in the PDC, right?

I had problems with my overhead push console lights staying stuck on and not being able to push them to turn them off ,So they just kept staying on, would go on/off at random so i just yanked the bulbs, so i wouldnt get a dead battery one morning from them..
