ok well that was undetailed. it's a 2wd 2001 ram 1500. non posi w/e it's technical name is. it should be a 3.55 but i will have to look at receipts the previous owner gave me, theres a list of parts put in the rear end. just asking, would the rear axle out of a 3rd gen dodge 4x4, 3.92, 9-1/4 posi, bolt up on a 2001 2wd, 3.55's, non posi?

Third gen 1500's have AAM front axles but if the rear is still a 9.25 corporate axle I would think it would bolt right up. But I'm really just bumping this thread Cause I don't know what a 3rd gen has in the back.

Up until 2008 or something, it was the Chrysler 9.25 rear, same as ours. Reason I know is that when I was ordering my Auburn LSD, it listed 1994 and up through 2008, IIRC, as the same part.

Try to talk the 3rd gen guys into taking a tape measure to their rear ends.
Have them measure from the spring perch to the back of the drum and the width of the leaf springs, then you do the same on yours. Just include a picture of the exact spot you are measuring to so they will know where to measure.

As long as the spring perches are in the same location and are the same width then it should work.

They started to put discs in the back in the 01 model year.
Mine has 4WAL with discs all around.
I believe All dana rears in 2001 had disc, and some 2001 corporates had discs

I hope you're talking about a different vehicle (or maybe 2500/3500s) with Dana rears, or you meant Dana fronts. No 2nd Gen Ram 1500 has ever come with a Dana rear end.

Nope Never said that a 1500 came with a dana rear.
Just saying that of the 2001 models if it had a dana rear it had disc brakes
and some of the corporate 9.25" had disc brakes also.
OP said he has a 01 1500
and bigred97 said he may have to change things around.
I am just throwing out the possibility that the OP has discs in the back already.
