Default Tachometer and turbo

I have recently purchased a used 2000 Dodge Ram Quad Cab 2500 4X4 with a 5.9 L turbo deisel. The tachometer will will temporarily quit working when I am driving and I will loose my turbo power. I think it is my crank position sensor but I am not sure, also I don't know for sure where it is located. I have looked at a wiring diagram for my truck at the local library but the color coding on the schematic does not match any of the wires to the sensors on my truck. Does anyone know of this problem and how to fix it, or help guide me in the right direction. Also the tachometer seems to drop out when I come to a stop sign and then a little while later it will start working or I can turn off my engine and then restart it and it will come back on.
