Default How much transmission fluid?

I know I ask this about every time I do a fluid change but I can't remember and I can't find an old thread where I asked. When changing the transmission fluid how much do I need to refill it with? I know In the past I added something and then ran it and checked it and added as needed. I can't remember if it was 5 quarts or what it was. What's the safe amount to start off with?

The truck is a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 360 and the 46RE transmission.

Mine took 5, and then after running it for a few minutes through the gears, needed an additional half.

Haynes says add 4 then check.
Mine takes 5-5.5.
If I let it sit overnight with the fluid drained and the pan stuck back on without adding fluid then it takes closer to 8.
