1997 Ram idling at 1600-1800
Never had problems before today. Now the engine is idling at 1600-1800 RPM and there is a sucking sound coming from the throttle body. I've found threads here describing idling problems but never the vacuum sucking sound mentioned with it. This may be something really simple.
I can put the truck in drive and get up to almost 40 mph without touching the gas pedal. Not good for the brakes...
Anyway, I'm not an engine guy and I'm kind of lost. I don't see any lines disconnected and, after taking off the air filter housing, I disconnected the plug in the back of the throttle body and the one on the driver's side. Once I reconnected them I got a check engine light.
I thought this could help:

but I don't see the pictures.
Any advice for me?

The RPMs will go down to about 1500 when I turn on the A/C. In any case, the vacuum sucking sound will not stop when I press the accelerator. Is this any indication of the IAC performance?

the iac should gradually come out as the motor warm up. i would watch it and see if it moves at all. most the ones i have seen which were tbi chevys dont move at all when they go bad. watch it for about 10 min and see if it moves at all

I will check. Thanks. I'd hate to blow $35 on a IAC only to have it be another problem.
