Default Some pics of my plenum fix....

So I did my plenum fix a week ago and so far everything has been running great this week. I did a Seaform treatment after the fix and the truck is idling great and running awesome.

A little background on the fix. I have a 2000 Ram 1500 4x4 with 86,000 miles. I knew the plenum hasn't been fixed but I didn't think it was bad because I wasn't burning oil that I could tell and I didn't have any pinging.

As you can see from the pics the plenum was blown and there was a good deal of oil in both the intake and on the plenum plate.

Thanks to everyone that helped with the fix!

You should do a DIY.

That is pretty funny stuff considering I am probably the least mechanical person on this forum as of today! I actually was planning on doing a DIY but got a little overwhelmed in the process and didn't take enough photos to justify a DIY.

nice pics, they really show what a blown gasket will do. And also that u didnt get the ping or oil burning, but the pics tell it all. I think if we havent done the intake on our truck yet, u might as well because its gonna fail. I dont have any symptoms with my truck either but i have plans on doing the fix. Ill post my results also as more proof that just because u dont have obvious problems, u still have one

As a note on cleaning the intake after I got it out.....

I tried using acetone, and brake cleaner with little success. I then used some Simple Green in a spray bottle and it worked MUCH better.

People keep on telling me, "Oh, I don't see oil at all when I look down the TB" or "Oh, there isn't hardly any oil at all when I look down the TB" and that their gasket must be fine then. Oh, it doesn't fail the tests that the dealership cooked up, its fine.

Yet another example of how even when you think its not blown, or try to convince yourself that you don't have that problem, that its blown, your Dodge has this problem. Every Magnum engine HAS this problem unless you get a different intake manifold, or you get the Hughes or APS fix.

OK, end rant.

BTW, this was not directed at you Whaack, I just decided to use your thread as an outlet. Sorry for the partial hijack.

but after seeing the oil all pooled up at the end of the intake, i have decided to move it to the top off my list.

good job, whaack!
since you claim to be "the least mechanical person" i'm curious to find out how long the fix took to complete.
