Think I'll pass emissions?
What's up fellas? I'm doing a build-up this coming weekend, and I'm curious as to whether or not you think I'll have any problems passing emissions tests afterwards. I live in Northeast PA and the man says I gotta get that stupid sticker.
I have a 97 Ram 1500 with the 360. This weekend I'm going to be throwing on JBA short tube headers, a flowmaster cat-back exhaust (3" single out the side), harland sharp 1.7 rocker arms (S70037), a fastman 50mm throttle body, and an SCT tuner from Hemifever.
Whaddya think? Each of the parts by itself claims to be 50 state legal. But, all bolted together do you think they'll conspire against me to flunk emissions? In that case, I'm going to be polling some folks around my town for a "friendly" local shop to help me out with that fancy sticker thing.

So long as you leave the cat in there, and have the O2 sensors hooked up, shouldn't be a problem.
Make sure you change your oil a day or so before you go to get tested.
When is the last time you did a tuneup?
Is your plenum fixed?

Yeah, I have a stock cat and O2 sensors - they're actually both brand new. Plenum was blown and cat finally plugged back in December. Was actually about 150 miles away from my current home visiting relatives for the holidays so left it at a local garage back there.
(BTW, for anyone else that travels around Pennsylvania highways... you know what was a real fun feeling? Going up snowshoe mountain in central PA when my CEL came on and I started losing power like crazy. Total 'oh crap' moment. Fortunately it ran strong enough to get me the last 30 miles)
I know the guy that runs the garage back there though, so it actually worked out ok.
He put on a new cat & y-pipe, O2 sensors, intake, oil pan (was rusted to hell), all new freeze plugs, and changed spark plugs and wires. So its been worked over I guess. haha.
From reading SCT's website, I'm thinking that I am going to have to flash it back to stock program before inspection. Hopefully it passes. Anyone have a similar build-up and take the dreaded emissions test?

Yeah, all taken care of actually. We exchanged emails last week and got everything set up (he's a great guy to work with, very helpful). I received my tuner from him today. Just waiting on a couple more parts to roll in for this weekend's build. I was just checking out SCT's website to see if they had any info on whether or not using a tune would affect emissions.
Of course it will.
Don't know if it is going to screw up the emissions test though..... I don't have testing where I live, so, I can basically do whatever I want, and no one really cares. Maybe some of the other folks that have tunes, and get tested, will chime in.

Yeah, i wish I could just cut out the damn cat. Whaddya gonna do though, ya know? Really, I'm not too concerned with the tune b/c I can just kick it back to stock before taking it in and then re-apply the tune afterwards. That's easy enough. I'm just hoping the rocker arms / throttle body / headers / 3" exhaust combo don't combine forces enough to make it flunk the test. Those I can't exactly just swap back out for a couple days. haha. I'm probably just being overly paranoid.

Your not going to have a prb, even with the SCT so long as you give the proper time for your "monitors" to complete their cycle. You can pass in PA with a couple incomplete I believe, but your best bet is after you do any computer changes, to run it around for a few days. The monitors I am refering to are like Evap, o2, etc.
To make you feel better... Im runnin shortys, high flow cat, super 44 (out the side for inspection, dumped afterwords
). Im also runnin a 50mm TB, superchips tune left on for inspection, etc. I just had my PA inspection done a few weeks ago. Never a problem down in the lower southeast corner.

There is nothing there that would be illegal. As long as your meet the requirements your state....states lol. Since your in PA, like me....so long as you have a Cat(that works) and a muffler with a sound rating of 85 decibels or lower you wont fail inspection or emissions.
