New Truck (2001)..What do I need to know?
Thanks, McWillis! Agreed! Lol.
And I agree, too with the mileage, higher than I'd like. It seems around here though, that I'm seeing a lot of high mile Rams.. that was going to be my next question- ideal mileage for the age. I know there's a guideline that everyone follows, but of course I know I myself in my car, drive a lot more than 12,000 miles per year. And I know some have less because they're only used for hauling (like the Ram I grew up with that we only used to go to horse shows and camping and of course all our ranch needs) and some will have more that are daily drivers, but most of the others I've found (mostly have looked on craigslist, because I haven't seriously pursued a truck until now..but I have looked at dealerships and other local online sites and ads) have been fairly high miles. 01's have typically had 120k-150k and 98-00 well over 200k and I'm not looking to get into high mile repairs right off the bat. My car's no spring chicken, I just realized today it's at 98k and is an 04, but when it's bigger and is known for it's expensive fixes I definately want to do my research first.

Kelly Blue Book shows private party value at 7200-8300 bucks. Depending on condition. If it is in as good of condition as they say it is, then it is indeed a cheap truck. Go look, take it for a ride, see what ya think. If it runs/drives/shifts nice, and fluids all look good, go for it.
WOW, 4-5000 for that truck?
with that many miles...I would not pay more than 2500, and that is pushing it. Milk that dent in the bumper for all its worth. The best price that guy is going to get is FAIR value. ALso, there are scratches.
I paid 10K for my 2001 in 2008, but it had 42,000 miles, and still has a warranty (50 dollar transfer fee). AND IT WAS SPOTLESS. leather interior, the works.
Since then it had to go in 2 times for warranty work. One time was A BRAND NEW TRANSFER CASE. All I paid was a 100 dollar deductible.

Proof of the pudding though, is in the test driving.
you'll have to do a tranny rebuild in about 20K or less...
offer $3500, that sounds decent to me.
and the motors are very strong. i have 203K on mine and shes still getting 14 mpg's city, but ive sunk ALOT of dough into my truck...65% of my truck is new parts...
but there are deals out there, i paid $1800 for mine, and it had a fresh rebuilt tranny, 4.10 gears in the differentials, new radiator, and new fuel pump done within 10K of me buying (saw recipts)....id talk them down, if they dont go down, move on, theres plenty of deals out there, and with 5K you could probably get a Cummins

All I am saying is offer low, and work your way to an acceptable price. My truck has 48K and the transfer case cracked, and the power steering pump exploded.
If it were not under warranty, I would have sold that truck by now. It is still under warranty until march 2011. Well, maybe not now because of the work being gone.

well i have a 2001 and have always wondered if i had the deathflash..
so i took a pic of my PCM today, and i noticed the words "authorized software update" with a bar code. is this the dreaded DF? if so, are you a 100% sure? hopefully this will help answer other peoples questions about the DF bc i couldnt find any proof that i had it..
deathflash?..i'll be relieved if i finally can answer this with confidence. TIA
