46re help with torque converter PLEASE!!

Default 46re help with torque converter PLEASE!!

Hi everyone i am new to this forum and i made a bone headed mistake, i didnt undo the drive plate bolts to the torque converter and i pulled out the tranny with out it, what is my concequences and what do i need to look for as far as damage? any advise would be greatly apreciated.

No worries. If you are going to rebuild the trans anyway, the seal at the front of the trans gets replaced as part of the job. Just unbolt the TC, careful though, its not exactly light.

If you aren't.... Check the front seal. It isn't really that expensive, and now is the very BEST time to put in a new one, even if you AREN'T going to rebuild it.

I'd replace the drive plate because any stress cracks or distortion you've created are only going to magnify over time, and any wiggle in the torque converter in operation will manifest itself in front pump damage. Might as well alleviate that worry while it's easy.

I'd also replace the engine rear main seal just because I always replace them when they're exposed, and at least the front seal on the transmission (same reason). I'd take a good look at the tangs on the front pump drive gear, and replace the whole darn pump if there's tang damage.

MonteC is probably the best guy to ask about this.
