Changing gear ratios 01 ram
how might i go about changing the gear ratio in a 2001 ram 1500 RWD, it's 3.55, i am thinkin about a little higher... don't know about 4.10... how might i go about it? if i have to i will take it to the dealer. but is it possible to do it myself?
its possible to do it yourself if you have done rearends before or know somebody that has, you have to be careful about shims. i probably wouldnt go to a 4.10 im personally looking at upgrading to a 3.92 for my 2wd. im sure others will chime in shortly
i imagine the dealer would hit you pretty hard. probably around 1500-2000 is my guess. I used to build swamp buggy jeeps so i know how to change gears. they are a pain to do it right but if you do it wrong your in for some money
how do you set the lash? what tools are needed? if you dont mind informing me
sorry to OP, I'm not trying to jack the thread

The dealership will rape you. Don't go to them, you can get just a good of job done by a quality mechanic that you trust. Make sure they are good and you trust them, because there are a lot $tealerships and mechanics out there that will screw the job up.
For labor, you're talking $300-$400 for the rear axle usually.

A friend of mine just put new gears and a posi in his camero, he had some help from his dad but he said it wasn't all that hard. Just need to take your time and do everything correct and not skip any details.
