Default OBD 2 computer

Thanks for all the info about the headers ,really helpful thank you all . My second question was some one around " here" ( I live 5 minutes away from KRC performance) told me that if i ever wanted to run a cam that was healthy in size that i needed pcm from at least a 96 ram that was OBD II instead of OBD I in order to run a programmer to tune it maybe like a SCT . I was wondering has any body ever heard about this or even done it . I guess if i replace the pcm what do i do with the old style data link connecter ? Can i change the data link connecter with the newer one with ease so the SCT tuner will plug in ? I dont know. I do plan on doing other mods to it not just a cam, like the headers that i mentioned earlier, kegger mod ,throttle body mod and doing some head work and true dual exhaust What do you guys think about it. It's still just a 1995 with a 5.2 . I just want a cam that you can really hear and know it's in there ....

Tony

You cant just swap out the PCM, (so far as I am aware, going on GM experience here) You would need the entire wiring harness out of the donor vehicle, along with the PCM. One out of a manual trans truck would be best, then you could still use your 46RH, and not have a solid check engine lite.

I think that the dash gauges are also controlled by the PCM..... so, the dash would be necessary as well, maybe.......

You CAN reprogram your OBDI computer, it is just a tad more convoluted....... involves swapping out the chip in the ECM. Various companies offer custom chips.... but, you pay a premium for them, and for the cost involved, you can pick up most of the equipment to do it yourself, and burn as many chips as you care to.
