But will that take the play out of the steering shaft in the box?

There are TWO adjustments that are done with the box out of the truck. Check out the procedure in the manual. Cheaper than a new box. Not sure about 'easier' though......

Should fix your leak, AND reduce dramatically, or eliminate the slop.

thanks for the info, I only made one adjustment last night, so i will look into again tonight.

Redhead sells the for $286.

In the DIY section it only talks about one adjustment and thats one i worked on last night. It helped a little bit, but still feels a little funny.

Not sure what Pep Boys got when they replaced mine (<3 extended warranty) but it's already clunking and I had it done around xmas time.
