4X4 can sometimes be a little stiff if not used often. As long as it did not make any funky noises it should be fine. The clear coat issue is what it is for a 14 year old truck. You may be able to buff it out some. The 318 had 225 Horse Power if thats what your looking for. Good engines for the most part.

Brad:

As for the Death Flash look at this link and read all the posts. This should answer question for that. For the LSD try looking at the axle and see if it is stamped anywhere on it or it may have a sticker saying 3.55 LSD. It may be on the sticker in your driver side door. You may even be able to have the dealer look up the VIN and tell you for free.

If you find out the rear end has the 3:55 then I believe it is the LSD. The 3:92 is the better rear end though.

The posts basically say that if the trucks ECM has a sticker on it saying "Authorized Service Update' it has the Flash. It was to correct an issue with leaking Pleneum gaskets. Your intake manifold is what Dodge refers to the Beer Barrel manifold because it resemble a Beer keg. Anyway the underside of it has a flat plate on it calle the Pleneum. The gasket between that plate and the aluminum manifolf would leak and cause loss of power, and ping, or knock sound due to low vacuum. If the truck has good off the line power then you probably do not have the Flash. The only way to get rid of the flash is to get an aftermarket power programmer and reflash it. If you take it to the dealership for work they will probably flash it.

Guys, I am going to buy this truck. We settled on $2500cad. I will need tires before too long, as you can see in the pictures it has the standard 5 slot dodge wheels. How big of a tire can i put on them without lift. Also, I do not want to typical wide mudder type tire, but, a commercial maybe the right word tire...make any sense?

Thanks for all the help,
Brad

Not sure on the max tire size, but if you are interested in getting some quality tires at a cheap price look at treadwright.com they have the rights to retread tires like BFG A/T's, and Goodyear MTR,s. Alot cheaper than new, and they are very highly recomended by 4X4 community.

Hey guys...I will post a pic is someone tells me how to, or I could e-mail it to one of yas..

I do not believe my truck has the "death flash"...however, the fun pedal seems to take minute for motor to rev...this is in park. What i mean is it not very responsive. How do i know if I have the leaky plenum issue?

Thanks
B

The truck would run rough and have no power during take off. It may get a pinging or knocking sound also. Their original fix for it was to install a thicker gasket and eventually came out with a Flash. On my 96 I just took the intake off and installed a new gasket with a thick bead of quality heat resistant silicone. Never leaked again.

Being it is an older truck I would recommend running one bottle of Redline S1 Fuel system treatment through it twice a year. It is about $10 US and it does a great job of cleaning the system. Do not run high octane gas in it u would be wasting money.
