Default 4x4 works like a champ

well today i changed out my 4wd selector switch. (the vacuum switch on the t-case). it was only $9.99 at napa.
fired up the truck and shifted to 4hi. works perfect.

the only thing i noticed is that when i put it in 4lo only the 4wd light comes on.
is there supposed to be a low range light for 4lo?
my old ford used to say 4wd low range when i shifted to 4lo.
does dodge have this light? or could my light on the dash be out?

There is not a 4 low light, just the 4wd light, you should know when it is in low just look down at the shifter. and you can feel it.

what was ur original prob.? i had to get my read end & tranny rebuilt and get the t-case outer casing replaced. and now 4x4 is hesitate of engaging. sometimes it will engage and take a sec for the light to come on, or if i am stuck already and i try to goto 4x4 and the wheels just sit and spin and like 5 min later the 4x4 will finally engage. im thinkin maybe the vac lines on the t-case didnt get tightened down right or something?

^ryan, you may have a vac leak, a sticky shaft inside the cad, or an alignment problem with the axles splines and collar. start with a vac check. then remove the cad and try its operation when removed from the axle. lastly - manually slide the collar back and forth to check its operation. i had the same sluggishness problem and recently pulled the axles to replace seals. i also replaced the bushings figuring i had an alignment problem. it turned out my biggest problem was wear burrs on the collar and axle splines, making it a tight slide. i filed off the burrs to fix it.

i think that hum might be low diff fluid,
but my original problem was that the front axle would not lock. it was like i had 2lo instead of 4lo.
the PO sold it to me and even said he could not get the 4wd to work, he had mechanics look at it and took it to like 2 different shops.
they said it was the tcase and it would be like $1500.
all i had to do was but the $10 part from napa and BAM! now it works every time.
never trust a mechanic! (if you dont already know him)

yea im glad for y a, i just wish i could figure mine out now. whenever i get back to the usa ill double check all my fluids, prob just change it all, and make sure my vac. lines on the t-case are not leakin, and then if it still aint fixed i guess ill check the CAD vac. switch. start with the easy stuff then work up you know. its gotta be something small i mean they just rebuilt everything.

i figured start replacing the cheap sensors first then the actual cad motor

but while i had the vacuum lines disconnected i sprayed some compressed air through the lines just in case there was a blockage in the line.
