99 Ram Back firing!? HELP

thanks for the info on that also. i will check that one also. he's about had it with the truck but doesnt want to ask the guy thats had 8+ dodge rams and only drives dodge............ME! So ill do everything suggested and see what happens. hopefully its an easy fix

Default back fire then it dies......

nothing as of yet. still back fires. its a random deal. it just does it whenever and when it does the truck dies and he coasts to a stop then restarts the truck and off he goes until it does it again. odd i know

I'd also consider the fuel pump going bad as well. I had that happen, and the truck would kinda sputter and then bang as the fuel was getting injected late (I assume). Checking for adequate pressure on the fuel lines would be the true indicator.

i just had that same problem. I just replaced the plugs,distributor cap, and rotor button. MAKE SURE THEY ARE IN THE RIGHT SPOTS CLOCKWISE! I also just had my right upstream O2 sensor replaced because it was backfiring,maybe you have a bad O2 sensor or your cat might be clogged! Hope that helped!

thanks for the info. i think the next step is the O2 sensor and the cat. had a new short block put in last year so its a fresh engine.
