Huge problem with rear 2500 wheel studs w/ PICS
Guys, a royal screw-up has took place on my driver side rear wheel. I finished the brake job yesterday, rear wheel cylinders, thermo quiet pads (rear) calipers and front EBC 7000 series front pads....
Well, during the test drive yesterday, I was hauling through the windy backroads probably 65-70, and heard a pop and it fell like something gave in on a hard turn...went ignored...today when I drove I was hearing a real bad grinding sound and when I pulled in the driveway I seen the tragedy unfold... The lugs were all sitting halfway off and the wheel has cut off the hub cap and all was left of that was the backside of it...The studs are completly ground up and ruined, also the holes on the weld wheel are bored out and ruined.
How do I go about replacing these studs? And is the wheel usable or trashed...plz help guys, must fix this soon!

And yes I have changed wheels studs before but only on the front wheel when I changed a hub bearing...never a rear stud before....plz tell I don't have to drop the rear axle or anything like that...
Is it possible to bang these old ones out and place the new ones in and using an impact and lug nut, pull the studs in?
This is my only idea....

You can pop them out with a sledge hammer and pull new ones in with a lug nut.
I once had that happen on a brand new stolfus manaur spreader, the wheel center ripped out, and the wheel fell off. Only then did I see the sticker saying you must re-torque the lug nuts upon delivery.

should be ok you didn;t trash the rims completely just make sure after you put the new studs in that you torque them and recheck them every couple of days if this is your dd. i've done something similar to that only my rim was trashed the holes where egg shaped yours are not that bad just keep an eye on them you'll be ok and yes you can beat those studs out.
Here is a pic of my stock front wheel studs that I used when changing a hub bearing....should the ones I need to buy going to be the same as these? Also I noticed that they have straight threads toward the end, and if I remember correctly I had to band them in with a mini sledge then I pulled them all the way in with an impact.
Do I not need to drive these in first? Or can I just place them in and pull 'em through with the impact? Also where do you buy wheel studs? 9/16 is the correct size?

As long as both axles are dana 60's you should be fine putting them in. When we did my rear leafs we snapped one off and we used a ball joint press and an impact gun to put the new stud in.
Rear axle is Dana 80
