I couldn't find an answer from any of my search results so here goes...Are any of the 2nd gen dashes or their parts intechangeable, ie could I put the dash or parts of a dash from 98-01 in my 97?

The dash was redesigned in 98 so I really don't think anything would fit in the 94-97 models.

Ok, but what about a whole dash? I can understand the top part not fitting or the cup holders at the bottom don't go.

I believe the entire interior had a serious makeover after 1997 or 1998. Don't think anything related to the dash will move over.

If you visit LMC Truck's website, they have a catalog with diagrams (IIRC) of the two different interiors that may help illustrate the differences.

Just checked the LMC truck website and they didn't have any diagrams of the interior. I don't want to spend all that money at the stealership trying to get parts to fix my dash.

Your best best will prob be to part a donor or parts truck (94-97 models only) and pull whatever parts you need. Nothing from 98-02 will fit in your year model. (as far as the dash goes...)

Check the mounting locations for a 97 vs. 98+ On the 98 + there are the window screws across the top, bolt behind each kick panel, and two under the cover (below the cup holder). After that, it would just be wiring differences which will be the pain. 98+ clusters just clip in (no wires to unplug) 97 and below have plugs. You will have to swap the computer too.

Could it be done, most likely but for sure be a ton of work. Will this present a problem when it comes to mileage discrepency's between your old cluster and your new one... very possible. Don't forget about messing with the vin plate with those special rivits. The older dashes have the plate rivited to them at least up and including 98. My 01 had the plate rivited to the truck so I got lucky when I swapped my dash pad out

Anyway.... as suggested already, just find a donor truck and swap over what is needed. Don't make things harder than they need to be unless you get enjoyment out of stress lol
