the key to it all is, go by the books, do it right and dont cut ANY corners its a very cut n dry deal unlike chevy where you have to shim the carrier to set your backlash-(PAIN IN THE ***!!)

The axle shafts or the entire axle? The axle shafts are held in by a 1 11/16 nut and 3 12 point 9/16 bolts that hold the bearing on. Then they just pull out if there not froze up in the hub bearing.

i think he's pulling the entire assy for gear change/setup.

the disconnect axle doesn't really matter, just unhook the vac, elec, and vent lines at the cad, and leave the cad installed. unless it looks like it might get smashed during removal...

I am going to pull the entire assy for the gear swap but I am going to take the axles out first. Also I need to pull the cad because the gasket is leaking.

You know there are 2 shafts on the passenger side right? You will see the intermediate shaft when you pull the CAD.

and all i did was take out the 4 bolts on the cad, and hung it on the control arm, didnt disconnect any vacuum lines/plugs at all.....and like zman said, theres two shafts, and piece that goes over both shafts(which locks 4x4)
