If I were looking for something to replace my ram as a work truck, I would get a '88-'98 GMC Sierra 2500 reg cab long box 4x4. No air, power nothing, vinyl floors/seats, just the bare bones.

We have a '90 Sierra at the farm I work at. 170xxx miles and I have NEVER seen another truck that can hold up to this much abuse. In the 5 years I've worked there, absolutely no maintenance has been done. No oil changes, no tranny flushes, I don't even think it has an air filter anymore (it got drenched with water so we threw it out). It's been air borne way too many times, over loaded, over revved, and it's still going strong. It will walk away from my Dodge in a race any day, and it'll out pull my Dodge without breaking a sweat. It drives straighter and smoother than my truck too. It ALWAYS starts and it's never overheated.

The only things wrong with it...broken leaf spring from hauling 2000lbs of feed in the bed and driving way too fast down a 2 track farm lane, and it burns a small amount of oil, but what do you expect when you use SAE30 drain oil from a tractor to top it off?

I honestly can't say enough good things about those 4th gen Sierras. If I were to buy another truck, I would not hesitate to buy a GMC.

Now when it comes to good looks and picking up chicks...my Dodge wins hands down

honestly, for a long time to come, i will not drive anything but 2nd generation rams. They are the best. Easy to work on, easy to get power out of, best looking truck ever maid and can take one hell of a beating. Mines at 245,000 miles and i pound it and race it and drive it every day and it never lets me down. Just smokes a little haha

This is my second Secondgen. I bought my first in July 2003. A 1996 4x4 5.2. After learning a lot about these trucks, they grew on me.

After owning the 1996, I came across a 2001. In 2008 I did a search and found a 2001 with a chrome brushguard, rock sliders, 3 inch lift and off road package. Leather interior THE WORKS. Even had a transferable warranty until March 2011 (50 bucks...power steering pump and transfer case...NICE).

41,250 miles (All servicing documents included) for $10,000 in 2008. Great price for a truck with a warranty. Even came with the original sticker and total receipt. The prev owner paid $44K total for this truck in 2001 (with the appearance package from california concepts).

Could have not been luckier with buying a 2ndgen. Now that i have owned a 5.2 and 5.9. I think i will want a CTD next. However, i think that i would settle for the CRD (Common rail diesel) that they put in the Jeep Grand Cherokees.

I want some propane injection and everything else bullydog sells.

Without a question yes! I love dodge trucks, not so much 3rd Gen's but I'd either get a 01 cummins or get a new 4th gen but can't make up my mind between 2500 cummins or a powerwagon.

All vehicles have their potential problems and most I'd say most seem to be because of previous owners. Some trucks get treated like **** and therefore, by the time to get to their current owners they're falling apart. Others take pretty good care of them and are holding strong.

The two previous owners of my truck didn't do to bad I'd say because since I've owned it, the only things I had to replace are thermostat, tires, battery, and I need to replace the a/c compressor and timing chain. Otherwise most of the work I've done to my truck has be becuase I'm bored, got the money, and want to upgrade/prevent future problems.

most definitely. The only thing I don't like about 2nd gen rams is, no 4 door option.

I would ONLY buy another Dodge truck. I've loved the dodge trucks since way back when the 2nd gens came out...

If I were to buy another one, I think I'd have to go 3rd gen, because the newest 2nd gen is still 10 years old now... I will always love these 2nd gens though, but I love the look of those 3rd gens too
