The donor truck has a Chrysler Reman Trans. with less than 25,000 miles on it and mine is starting to slip anyway.
At 148k miles the intake manifold belly pan gasket is toast. Which means that motor will be drinking oil, fouling plugs, causing misfires, clogging up your cat, etc. It would be super easy to replace the gasket and pan while the motor is out, will make the motor much more lively. Do a search, there is usually at least 5 threads pertaining to the plenum repair daily.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone! I appreciate it! I however have already sold the 318 out of my truck. Besides, my old truck had the 360 in it already and the bottom emd torque for pulling trailers is far better, hence the reason for the swap in the first place.

RamSport97,

Thank you very much for the insight into this! I have never come across this before, but I believe you. I'll certainly look into this and get required parts if necessary! Thanks again!

I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 quad cab with a 5.2L, its reprogrammed, cold-air intake, Gibson exhaust headers, flow master muffler with 3” exhaust. I would like to know if I could swap out the 5.2L with the 5.9L & the computer out of a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500. Would all other items swap over? Such as power steering, tranny, throttle body, intake & intake manifold, all the exhaust items ect ect. The 5.9L will be a power hose after the rebuild of cyl heads with porting to intake manifold & exhaust, Performance cam, pistons, may even punch it .040" over. I appreciate any and all ideas

as they are the same year, it will drop right in, and everything will bolt right on. Have to do something with the PCM though, either use the 5.9 PCM, or, get a custom tune... which I would recommend anyway, considering what all you are doing to it.

If they are stock heads, don't bother rebuilding them, spend the money on a set of NEW heads, that are of a better design.

I have a 1997 Dodge ram 5.9 360 automatic that I recently totalled! but I found a 5.2 same exact year model that the transmission doesn't work and it is a manual. Also 4x4 I was thinking of swapping 5.9 motor and transmission from my wreck truck into the other truck with bad transmission but will my automatic transmission from my 360 bolt up to the 5.2 motor ? If not will my 5.9 motor and transmission bolt up to the other body no problem ? If I'm not mistaken I thought every year model trucks came ready for every option

If they are both the same year, should be a direct swap, IF they are both 4x4, for the trans. Engines are pretty much interchangeable. You would need wiring harness, and PCM for the engine/trans combo you used though.

Question for you just so I properly comprehend you can turn your 318 into a 390 if so, how do you do that? I was thinking about doing the 360 swap myself, but would prefer just to build the 318

360 swap would be cheaper.

Basically, you would replace the crank/rods/pistons with a longer stroke crank, and bore the cylinders a bit. Not an inexpensive endeavor. You would also need a custom tune to run it.
