Default No reverse when warmed up

I just got done installing a used trans in my girlfriends 98 and wondering if I should keep the old trans and possibly repair and keep for a spare,it lost reverse when hot but all forward gears and could it be a easy fix. I hope I dont have to replace it again and the 50 dollar core charge could buy plenty of beer.

Keep it, if you keep the truck, eventually your gonna need it, and it'll fetch more than the core charge. Can always rebuild it too.

Those trans do not hold that much fluid and the deep pan is decieving, according to Autozone it took 10.9 quarts empty and I used 8 filling it up. The E4OD in a 92 F150 I had took 15 quarts and could the lack of fluid be the cause for those trans problems,I think a empty C-6 will take almost a case of fluid.

I just think something in your valve body isn't right is all, MonteC might have an answer if he sees this. What did the fluid look like in the old one?

The fluid was still red and not burnt, right before it lost reverse she got stuck in the snow at her ex husbands house and he tried to pull it out when it was still in park. I think she had to warm it up some when very cold before it would move and the trans had been gone through a couple times but the last time it lasted the longest, she used to pull a large trailer but since it has been sold I doubt it will ever pull anything as large again and has a external cooler
