Had to get a replacement stub shaft from junkyard
I have a 1998 1500 dodge ram 4x4. I replaced my driverside axle ujoint about 2 months ago. I let my brother-n-law borrow the truck. Calls me and says i heard sometthing break lose and now i hear clicking..argh..
Pulled axle out and noticed my stubshaft ear is not a perfect circle anymore. arg again
I finally had time to go to a pick-n-pull yesterday. the only truck i found was a ram 1995 2500. I've read the stub shafts are the same so i decided to pull it. $30 bucks Yippee!!took the whole axle shaft (stub plus ujoints and long shaft).
After looking at my original axle shaft it looks exactly like the same one i pulled from the junkyard.
My gears in my 98 ram is 3.9 and the truck i pulled it off was a 3.5. anything wrong with just bolting up the new shaft in my axle? i'm looking at the spline and they both have 31 spline count.

If the axles are exactly the same, they don't care what gear diff they get plugged into.
Wonder if that was a light duty 2500?? I would like to think the dana 60 uses beefier axles as well than the 44.......
