Anyone in the Kansas City area willing to lend a tuner?
I would like to get rid of the death flash in my (new to me) 01 Ram 1500. And I'd love to have a tuner to tweak the engine for the best performance I can get with stock parts. But after buying the truck and already paying for quite a few parts/repairs, I'm already over budget. And the wife has let me know there will be no more spending on the truck in the near future.
That means that while I may be able to find the funds for the $11 180* thermostat, I can't afford to replace the plenum, or buy a tuner. (Thankfully, the plenum isn't a concern, as it doesn't seem to have gone bad yet.)
That said, I'm curious if there's anyone in the Kansas City area that has a tuner that would work for an 01 Dodge Ram with a stock 5.9L engine? If so, would you mind if I brought my truck by long enough to reprogram the PCM? As I mentioned, I don't need anything fancy - I just want to get rid of the death flash, and set it to run well on 87 octane gas.
I know it sounds cheap, but I'm stretched thin as it is, and would like to get the most out of my truck that I can...
Humbly,

Unfortunately, when you tune a truck with a programmer such as the Hypertech, Superchips, or SCT, it locks that tuner to that truck. You can't program truck XYZ and then go and program truck ABC as well. The tuner will pop up with a message stating that its "VIN Locked" meaning its locked to the original truck's VIN number.
Sorry to rain on your parade.
