Default Quick help about front axles

I broke my front axle's at the u-joint loops a while back, and I found a 01 dodge 1500 in the junk yard, are they the same axles as my 96? (inner and outer driverside)

i think all the 1500 axles are the same, 94-01. when looking them up on a parts site, they are listed as a group under the same part number. check this, if anything is different, it would be the 00-01 that might be different.

edit - i looked up the inners at rockauto. 96 and 01 are the same.

Just make sure ya get a matching gear ratio to what you have in the rear..... Or, if you get lucky, and find one with 4.10's, or better, half of your gear change is done.

Naw, it was just the axle shafts, not the whole carrier/diff housing. Got both inner and outer axle shafts for $60 though

Wish I brought more money to the JY though, that truck was a gold mine had factory tow hooks, fog lamps, 37's and skyjacker lift, locker in the back. sucks being prepared eh?

I shoulda asked for the tow hooks, seeing as the guy at the JY had to barrow my tools (spindle nut and the 14mm 12points) so he can charge me for the axle -.- if it was the u-pull I normally go to I would have just asked my buddy, who is also the manager, for the favor

But still, maybe I can cut a deal tomorrow.

There is a severe lack of 2nd gens in the yards around me.... The main yard I generally go to had ONE.... and it looked like a refugee from the fun side of detroit. The body was still there, EVERYTHING else was gone.....

Another yard had a couple, but, they were pretty picked over as well..... Not a good seat to be found anywhere.

the tow hooks with hardware are worth $75-100 on part sales here or ebay.

and a 1500 axle assembly with 4.10 gears is very hard to find and they are worth a LOT... since the alternative is to pay big $ for new gears and install. you might have some members willing to make the drive and come see you for them.

check the front axle tubes, if it has the trusses welded on, its the offroad edition with the factory 4.10. they are very much in demand.
