Default easy front pinion seal questions

i have a 97 ram 2500 4x4 with the dana 60s front and rear. My front pinion seal started leaking on me today, so im going to tackle that tomorrow. I did the rear pinion seal over the winter, so i know the process. My 2 questions are what size is the large nut that needs to come off, and what is the torque spec on it. Thanks

i don't know the answer to either. i did a rear pinion in a jeep d44 and it was 1-1/8. on that jeep, we marked the location of the nut and the shaft with a punch, and counted the threads showing (2). then with calipers pushed back we measured the pinion rotation resistance with a little 1/4 inch beam style torque wrench. it was about 20 inch pounds. changed the seal, and tightened the nut to just a tad past the punched mark. measured with the torque wrench, looking to get about 3-5 more inch pounds (not foot pounds). pinion nut torque was supposed to be something like 150-250, so it took an impact wrench to get it on and off.

tip - DON'T use a crappy timken seal. we did, and it started leaking after about 3 days. replaced it with a good National Seal from Advance and have no leak.
