Thats where I run into my dilemma, when I hit a puddle and get water up the passenger side, I seem to suck up water... So my question is, would the CAI be better at keeping the water out or would a 14x3??
I'm using a stock air box with the spectre cotton filter and kept my intake tube going to the fender and I've never sucked water going thru big mud holes.

Never had problems getting water with the stock system, but my CAI has no problems at all everyonce in a while I will get a little mud that will get past the the tube not much at all though, eventually I will spend some time and seal it.

But do not get a 14x3 for offroading, most of the people I know that going mudding and have a 14x3 or something similar just take their stock box with them, my suggestion is to get a sealed box there are a couple out there

The thing is: If you've got that problem it needs to be fixed because shattered pistons are a real downer.
But they look so nice on the end of those pretzels. I mean, rods.

Well, yeah, but then they're worthless as ash trays.

Actually, I've never seen a water-shattered piston with a bent rod under it. I suppose it could happen, but I've not seen it. The crap flying around in the cylinder can wreak havoc on the rings, valves, and spark plug, and all of that I've seen, but never a bent rod.

It could be I've not looked hard enough. And I never want to see it in an engine of mine, which is why I've sworn off open 14x3 filters. Amazingly, I learned the first time. Who knew that could happen?

Thanks for proving that its not just me... lol

So anyone have any ideas where to find a sealed CAI? saw one on Summit Racing that seals to the hood but not sure if that would do the trick... click on the large image... here>>>>http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-239371/

I have an S&B intake, its in a sealed box, but it does pull air from the stock location.

I try to do what I can.

I can't speak to any of the many options available, but I do trust my K&N FIPK-II with the filter sock to keep the water out of my own intake.

I'd think though that if you're sucking water with the stock setup, you might not want the S&B because it draws through the same cavity in the fender as the stock intake that's already giving you trouble.

Gotta agree here. What you need is to get your air intake HIGHER. A cowl hood that seals to a housing containing your 14x3 would at least get the inlet up a bit. If you have water running over the base of the windshield, I think you are "in too deep" anyway.
