Default new to forum, and got some big problems, help!!!

my name is adam and im from new brunswick canada, i just recently bought a 1994 dodge dakota with a 318 automatic 4 wheel drive. the problems i am having is sometimes it will idle like a champ the next second its running rough, missing then dies, i narrowed down one issue with the alternator possive wire,it arced out on the case, thats when it ran really bad(still acting up). the next is the transmission, i have park, reverse, and drive, but i have no first gear at all,its stuck in low gear even if i pull it down into 2 and 1, no change in rpm. i also have no speedometer. any help would be appreciated. thanks adam

Welcome to Dodge Forum, to get started the first thing I would do is a good tune up, new plugs, wires, and cap and rotor, then go from there.

sorry forgot to add that there is a sticky link on the top of this forum called MonteC's transmission corner, post your tranny problems in there for him as he is the inhouse expert.

Just realized that you have a Dakota and not a Ram, you might get more specific help for that truck in the Dakota section: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen-dakota-66/
