Very odd question - fuel tank
Ok, I know this has to be to one time anyone has asked on here, and probably no one will know definitively... Can you install a 26 gallon tank for a short bed and install it on a long bed truck?
Basically, if you look through my albums you will see the problem I am having with the truck that I bought a few months ago. The fuel tank obviously needs to be replaced cause when the gauge is almost pegged for empty I can only squeeze 22 gallons into a supposed 35 gallon tank.
I just want to make sure that it isnt possible before I go pick up the new to me 35 gallon tank.

Or, does anybody know the dimensions of the two tanks? I would be able to tell quickly which one I have that way.
The main reason I want to know is the 35 gallon tank has a different fuel pump than the 26. And I dont want to replace the tank when I will also need to replace the pump. I will just get a new 26 gallon tank and mod the straps to fit better and hopefully keep this from happening again.

According to the build sheet its a 35 gallon. According to Chrysler and every salvage yard I have talked to all long beds got a 35 gallon tank. But that doesnt mean that someone didnt cobble a 26g tank in the truck before I bought it.
I know these tanks are not perfect rectangles so just let me know where you measured at and I will compare. I would think that a difference of 9 gallons would mean an over all length and width difference....but I am not a chrysler engineer either.
I don't have a clue where she went... Normally, she checks with me before she runs off... Figgers the one time she doesn't, I have places to be, and it doesn't look like I am going to make it on time. Oooops.
Well, its her birthday, so, I am not overly concerned, nothing life threatening at least.

No, the bigger tank won't fit with some modifications, or so I'm told. Just not long enough of a box.
The 26 gallon tank should fit... I recall a 2500 V10 owner on here who bought his Ram used, and even though it should have had the 34 gallon tank (unique to 2500 quad cabs, everyone else has the 26 gallon or 35 gallon), he had the 26. We/he guessed that a previous owner replaced the tank for whatever reason, and replaced it with the cheaper 26 gallon unit.
