Default Axle seal problems

alright, so both my axle seals go on the same day at same time. i replaced both of them and the passenger side began to leak again. so i replaced it. two days later both seals start leaking again. i installed them with a mechanic in his garage after hours and he has done them before and we cant figure out why tis leaking. usign 8o 90 gl-5 which is recommended for my axle (dana 44). what am i missing?

Could be a bent axle. This would cause the seals to not seal properly on the axle shafts.

And did you smooth the axles before reinstalling?
Possibly bad wheel bearings or u-joints and you're getting a wobble.

Or, it might be as simple as a plugged axle vent hose. When you drive it, it gets hot. Heat makes the air in the axle expand. If it doesn't have anywhere to go..... the weakest link in the system is the seals.

Vent hose is on your CAD housing, pull the housing, make sure the port is clear, blow out the hose, and make sure that you can...... If all of that is ok, start looking at other parts.

i have the same issue on the driver side, only when the temperature get up there does it leak i guess in the cooler temps it stays put, just keep the fluid in there till you fix it.

original poster - what kinds of seals are you using ?
i've replaced a lot of seals lately and almost every damn time i used a timken seal it leaked. i replaced them with National (Advance) or SKF (Napa) and did them exactly the same way - and not had a leak with those.

also - those front axle seals are a bitch to pull in. did you have, or make, a seal puller to pull it in straight without bending the face, or tearing up the rubber. i ruined a passenger side seal on my first attempt.

Default axle seals

thanks for the advice. i will check the vent. the seals all look fine when i take them out and i have been using them from the dealership. so i am pretty sure its not a bent axle or a problem with the seals because there is no damage to them. anything else i should look for?
