air intake house
hi, new to the forums and only found out about this place while trying to search for parts for my 01 ram 1500 2wd with 104,000 miles on it, my truck hasnt had any major issues (*knocks on wood*), but im gonna have to flush the transmission soon and i was advised itll be time for a rear differential cleaning as well. im averaging about 14 mpg and my truck has some get up and go(can burn tires if i really get on it), but due to a recent change in scenery im thinking i might have to start upgrading my truck or get a 4x4, so i have a couple questions below.
my air intake house has a broken plastic male part that is on the house that slides into the female end of the lid. this is causing there to be a gap between the lid and the house itself....should i replace the whole thing with another stock one? or should i get a cold air intake upgrade? my truck is 100% stock..
Can the 2wd be upgraded enough to survive in the mud?i recently moved out into the country and im tired of watching all the mudding going on from the sidelines and im ready to dive in.
thanks for your time

Depends on the mud.
BigRedOne will tell you that you don't need four wheel drive..... but, I think it is cheaper/easier to build a 4x4 for mud, than a 2x4..... The 2x will never be as capable as a similar 4x.
Seems the specter CAI kit is becoming fairly popular..... It is inexpensive, and probably better than the stock unit.

i definitely need to get my air intake fixed since my truck is my daily driver, its got a whistling noise, sounds almost like a ringing(its not really loud, but when i take my foot off the gas i can hear it) and when i shut the truck off the noise slowly dies off(like when you take a tea kettle off the stove), which makes me think its a hose or something to do with air.
i might look into a cheap 4x4 just for mudding(i will probably save money after all the upgrades id have to get like you were saying)
