firestone mt's or maxxis buckshot's
Ok so I think these are the 2 best mud tires for the money what are the pro's and cons of each and how long will they last ? If you have another tire that is good let me know please.
Get the Buckshot Mudders ONLY if you like to replace tires every year or so!
Was a popular tire with guys in my hunting club three or four years ago. One of the local tire stores decided to advertise the hell out of them, huge banners, posters, etc.
The price made them VERY attractive and a lot of guys needing tires jumped on them.
I got a good buddy bought a set of 33x12.5x15s for his lifted Cheby Z71. Lasted him 22k miles and they were BALD! Tire store owner got so many complaints that he got the Maxxis rep involved and ultimately stopped carrying them. Maxxis said that they were not made for "heavy trucks". One guy in the hunting club took them off after 18k miles on his Jeep Wrangler, so there went the "heavy truck" theory!
Great traction in the mud, a little loud - when they have tread. They just won't have tread for very long.
I talked my buddy into shelling out for Mickey Thompson MTZs after removing his Buckshots. Over 40k doing the same driving he did with the Maxxis tires and he's still got well over 50% tread left. The Mickey's might cost 50% more, but they work out to be a LOT cheaper if you get 3-4x the life out of 'em...
Here is a recent pic of his Mickey's from a couple months ago, I was actually taking a pic of the grill guard because I made those uprights when his pitted and rusted so bad one broke off the mount! But you can see how much tread is on those tires with close to 45k on them:

i have had the firestones before and they rode very good, quiet, good mileage wear, you can get 40-50k out of them depending on how u drive and you rotate them like you shou, only draw back to them is they aint so good on ice, you will have to air them down to get any traction on ice, great in mud and snow and retty much anything but ice. im about to get them again in the new 315/75/16. for the price i dont think you can beat the results they can put out.
Actually, I meant to add a little blurb in my post about the Firestones, but got long winded and forgot, LOL.
I personally don't know a sole who runs them outside of forum life, which is pretty amazing considering there is a Firestone store in just about every town in America and I fished bass tourney's for over 8 years and have belonged to a few hunting/outdoorsman clubs over the years. So I know a TON of truck owners.
However, I've NEVER read a bad report on the Destinations...

Like hammer said stay AWAY from the buckshots. They are impossible to balance and are really loud on the road. They do great off-road though. If you have the money to spring for the mickey's go that route. I've heard nothing but good things about them, and it's m/t so you know its a good name. As for the firestones, I've never known anybody personally who owned them but have heard good things about them on here. Im sure somebody who knows more about em will chime in.
