Default General performance questions.

Well a friend of mine just purchased a 96 reg cab 4x4 ram with the 5.9 and is looking to get a lil more power. I looked into superchargers and found a procharger kit for 4,600 so that might be a lil pricey for him so i was thinking do other smaller mods a lil at a time.

First thing i was wondering is how do the stock heads perform. Can you swap the cam and intake and get decent power from them? Are there certain production heads on some different models that make better power or do you have to go with aftermarket.

How strong is the rotating assembly in these trucks? How about the pistons?

What kind of horsepower would a 5.9 make with higher compression from new pistons, cam, intake, full exhaust and possible throttle body and injectors but i dont know anything about the dodge fuel injection.

What will the trans hold up to?

Thanks for any help in advance.

um, there is some cams from KRC try 210x , or 1.7 HS RR. a tuner works and open the exhaust and low down the plenum for oil for a leak

First off why does he want more power? These trucks have great power already.

everything you mentioned in your post will in a way increase the power.

If he really wants more power without a supercharger and is thinking of doing a little at a time id tell him to order this

http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/p...d&partid=26112

Yess its 2900 but its everything he will ever need, and if he decides to go supercharger than the heads in that package will hold up

If its 0-60 he wants id go get different gears like 3.92 or 4.10 and that will increase acceleration and will help keep the trans together

Or take that small 360 bore it out to a 408 they sell entire packages on the same site and it cost like 1700 and it will really make the tires smoke
