Default weird thermostat

weird thermostat? when i did my intake gaskets, i replaced the t-stat there was no thing wrong with the org but it was 15years old

with the factory t-stat my temps never got to 200deg's alway under, like 195ish

the new one fail safe and it 195deg t-stat runs 200degs going down the highway and the frist time the t-stat opens it around 210 and then goes down and run at 200, and the werid part the truck run 195 with the heat on(chilly night i alway have the window down)

so is my failsafe junk?,,, im thinking so,, truck stayed cool with the 15year old t-stat

any thoughts,,,, sorry my not a good typer/speller

it is not weird for a truck to get to 210 in the summer with the AC on.

Maybe the AC is bad (Compressor, needs that lube charge).

I am guessing that you DRAINED YOUR RADIATOR when you changed the thermostat. Did you use a 50/50 water/antifreeze mix? Because if you just did 100% antifreeze, I can guarantee that is your problem.

P.S. I got the Jet Performance 180* and the truck has never run better. Never gets over 180 in the arkansas heat. however, i am running about 65/35 water/antifreeze. So it cools better.

If the AC does not work, then you might have a bad compressor that is causing more parasitic drag. Is the AC compressor still attached to the serpentine belt? If it isn't I would just get the shorter belt and route it like you don't have AC. Would free up some horsepower and you will run cooler.

60% antifreeze seems a bit high, even for ohio when it gets subzero.

It could be the thermostat. I have a jet performance one, but i am not sure that my truck is running very cool because I flushed it with Napa descaler then changed the coolant mix (which was BRIGHT green, not yellow green).

I just got the Jet Performance one because it was stainless steel.
