wiring gauges
I am about to install an oil pressure gauge (electrical) in a steering column pod, and was wondering how everyone else has done the wiring for their trucks. It's a sunpro, and I need to hook up to the dimmer, one to ground and the other in line of the dimmer, anybody know if ours are negative or positive? I still haven't found my Haynes manual so I don't have that wiring diagram. Also, where is the best place to get my 12 volt acc source from on our trucks, besides the fuse box? I'm asking cause I know lots of guys on here are probably running aftermarket gauges. Thanx for any help... btw it's a 99 ram 1500 slt
get ur 12v from the cigarette lighter of a source like that, that comes on only when the ignition is on. as for the dimmer it should be the same as far as wiring goes. ur light has a black and a white wire coming out of it? just go black to black and white to the positive wire , not sure of the color on the dimmer. then run the ground for the gauge and the ignition wire.
I'm looking at the instructions right now, the light has 2 colors of wires, blue and white. And the only reason I ask is that they list 2 ways to hook up the gauge light, one for a positive dimmer switch and one for a negative. Both have the white wire between the dimmer and the dash lights, the only difference is how you wire the blue one, to
+12, or to neg. I just wanted to see if someone could verify which we had in our trucks just in case. I don't really want to screw the gauge up or anything else worth more! And I never thought of the cig lighter to get my +12 volt, as it only turns on with the key...good thinking, thanx for that
