For towing, any old CAI and: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/GIB-316577/

Headers if ya got the scratch, natch. Ditch the worthless TB spacer. Maybe throw on a higher voltage coil with rotor, cap, and wires to match, and open up the plug gap to suit. Get a tuner hooked up, and run the highest octane tune that you can afford and reliably get fuel for.

Keep in mind that it's just a half-ton truck, which means that if your primary purpose is towing you've got the wrong rig. Don't expect miracles, because adding horsepower means more stress on the rest of the drivetrain that you will end up paying for.

The problem you run into with a CAI and exhaust in regards to towing, is that low end torque is a result of backpressure, which is actually an inefficiency of the scavenging of exhaust gases.
When you decrease this "inefficiency" by getting better flow, you DO gain both Torque and HP, but you MOVE THE TORQUE CURVE UP in the rpm band. So even though "on paper" you are gaining torque, you feel a torque or power loss at lower rpms, which kinda sucks when towing.
Of course, the right way to increase engine efficiency would be to do heads, cams, etc. after freeing up the exhaust flow with CAI, headers, high flow cats and muffler, for most people this is not feasible.
Another great alternative would be to go the CAI, hi-flow cats and better cfm muffler and then regear to 4.10s or even 4.56 gears, but again, this is not a cheap upgrade.
You may find that your towing performance would be better with a CAI, a decent muffler but using standard type cats for a little backpressure if you are not prepared to re-gear.

BTW I had a Flowmaster 50HD muffler. Sounded pretty good, especially after I added LT headers, but did drone in the cab from about 1800-2400 rpms and rusted out pretty quick. I have a Cherry Bomb Extreme now and it sound 100x better, does not drone and the CFM rate is about double that of a "Flow"master muffler...

That's why I recommended that specific Gibson exhaust. It'd be a bad choice for a street racer, but it's spot-on for towing.

i dont know if he has a tuner or not but i think a sct would help more then a intake and exhaust because his truck probbaly has death flash on it

if you want sound go with a flowmaster 40 or something loud. the differences between that, a gibson, a <insert aftermarket muffler here> is negligable; and none of them will increase power for towing etc. and all will pissoff your neighbours when you come home from work.

to behonest its a waste of time. maybe the funds to be spent on that should be redirected to fixing the plenum......... its a lot of work (and costly if you don't do it yourself) and it will hands down make your truck better than any exhaust will.

if you truly tow a lot and care about actual performance, regear the truck. you'll love it when you try to actually accelerate

Here's what a 50 series SI/SO behind a magnaflow cat sounds like on a 360.
