Default Crank sensor rubber gromment

I FINALLY got my engine back together and put it back in the truck. I went to fire it up and no go. turns over fine but won't fire.

I checked for fuel and spark. There is no spark coming from the coil. I assume it is my crank position sensor (when I went to remove the engine I forgot to pull the sensor and suspect I damaged it trying to pull the engine with it in). When I finally pulled it (what a PIA!) I noticed there was a bunch of debre sticking to the magnet. I thought this might have been the problem. I cleaned it up and went to put it back in. As I was pushing the CKS back in I accidently pushed the rubber grommet inside the bell housing...F#$%!!

So here I sit.... what to do...

I figure I can just remove the "dust" cover from the bell housing to get the rubber grommet out. kind of a pain as I have to remove the starter, etc.

What are your thoughts that the CKS is the source of no spark? Everything was working prior to pulling the engine.

My biggest worry is I bent the flywheel as I was trying to get the engine in. Thus causing the CKS to not read the notches properly. Although it did bolt up to the TC with no problems.

If this sensor was not such a PIA to get out, I would just borrow the one off my neighbors truck to test. And I don't really want to go throw $90 on a part that "might" be the problem. I think I will hit up the wrecker tomorrow, and grab a couple to test.

Only other thing I can think that would cause no spark is the CPS (Cam Position Sensor)?? Maybe a bad ground?? Maybe the truck just hates me, and doesn't want to work for me any more??

Thanks in advance!!

Ian

absolute no spark, I'd wager it is the crank sensor. Of course, if the disty's in 180* backward it won't work either. Did you mess with the distributor at all?

Just replaced the cap and roter. Didn't pull the shaft out.

No spark coming from the coil what-so-ever.

Did you already test the coil with a multimeter to verify that it's good?

TRUCK IS RUNNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good call on the coil... Kids must have used it as a hockey puck. Swapped it out with the neighbours truck and it fired right up.

It is running a little lean, I suspect the CPU just needs to relearn everything.
