has anyone ever tried this new type of clamp. its a wide band as opposed to a u-bolt.

The u-bolt style clamps hold the pipes together by crimping them. No pulling apart with those, unless you use the hot wrench. The band clamps aren't nearly as affective. If you would rather use them though, cut the sides of the pipe up about three quarters of what you expect pipe overlap to be. That gives the clamp the chance to actually hold the pipes together.

I was thinking about using one of those when I had to replace my cat, but I was to afraid that it'd be too easy for someone to steal it. I live in Cali and had to buy a C.A.R.B. compliant cat...$250...and that's after 3 months of searching for a company that could get there hands on one. I ended up taking it to a shop called The Cat House and they installed it for $20. They were pretty cool guys too.
